Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider and former MTV host Riki Rachtman have teamed up for a new podcast called The Ball. Premiering this week on YouTube, the show revives the spirit of metal TV programs from the ’80s and ’90s.
Snider previously hosted MTV’s Heavy Metal Mania in 1985, a forerunner to the legendary Headbangers Ball. Rachtman took over as host of Headbangers Ball in 1990 after Adam Curry. The format later moved to MTV2 with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed hosting. Now, Snider and Rachtman bring the vibe to today’s fans with their new podcast.
“Before ‘Headbangers Ball,’ there was ‘Heavy Metal Mania’ hosted by Dee Snider,” Rachtman said, explaining the podcast’s roots. He also referenced his earlier solo project called The Ball, which he produced independently with a DIY approach.
Fans can expect an unpolished, live-recorded show available as a video podcast on YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes. The set is described as “insane,” and episodes will be recorded live with no editing, embracing spontaneity and genuine conversations.
Rachtman added that fans can get involved through Patreon, where live participation during recordings will be possible. The duo aims to deliver a fresh take on metal media while honoring its classic foundation.
