The Violent Hour, led by Carla Harvey (ex-Butcher Babies), will release its debut album Pretty Girls Do Ugly Things on January 22, 2027. The album features 11 tracks that fuse old-school rock, indie, alternative, and heavy metal influences while exploring themes of survival, transformation, and the darker side of humanity.
The title reflects the record’s core idea: good people can do ugly things, and beauty can arise from darkness. Harvey explains the album is about facing adversity and sometimes getting “a little ugly to survive.”
Alongside the album announcement, The Violent Hour released the single and video for “Already Dead.” The alt-rock track deals with hitting rock bottom and turning pain into power. Its video, directed by Vicente Cordero and set in a morgue, reflects Harvey’s background as a former embalmer, blending horror and celebration.
Earlier in August, the band released another single, “Screenager.” The Violent Hour expanded from Harvey’s collaboration with drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax, Pantera), combining raw, unfiltered rock sounds with punk attitude and Riot Grrrl spirit. The touring lineup features five women delivering hard-hitting, feral rock with plenty of grit and swagger.
Following a prolific career with Butcher Babies and a unique parallel life as a mortician and grief specialist, Carla Harvey’s new band marks a fresh start driven by honesty and rock passion.
