Legendary guitarist Tony Iommi will release his new album From The Dark worldwide on October 23. The album’s first single, “World Alone,” debuted during a global streaming event in Birmingham, England, near the Black Sabbath Bridge.
“World Alone” is a high-energy rock track driven by Iommi’s signature guitar riffs and powerful vocals from Norwegian singer Jorn Lande, who co-wrote all songs on the album. The single’s video features a retro-futuristic dystopian storyline centered on a character called The Believer trapped in a twisted video game universe.
Joining Iommi and Lande on the record are bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. Produced by Iommi and longtime collaborator Mike Exeter, the album offers a vibrant, contemporary sound that remains faithful to Iommi’s iconic style.
The album opens with “Over The Violent Sun,” highlighted by classic down-tuned guitar riffs and dramatic vocals. Songs like “Black Times,” the thunderous “World Alone,” and the orchestral-infused “Beyond The Dead” showcase the album’s dynamic range and intensity. Thematically, From The Dark features dystopian and existential lyrics, particularly on tracks like “Stormwatcher” and “Death Wake,” which explore humanity and loss.
The album closes with the fierce “Return Of The Arbalist” and the epic “Legacy,” reflecting the passion that has defined Iommi’s enduring career. Coming a year after Black Sabbath’s final show, From The Dark affirms Iommi’s ongoing creative fire and stands as one of the most compelling rock albums of the year.
A limited-edition seven-inch single of “World Alone” will be released on September 4, featuring an instrumental B-side and deluxe foil sleeve. From The Dark will be available in multiple deluxe vinyl and CD formats, including a double LP cut at 45rpm with unique packaging and bonus tracks on select CD editions.
