Exclusive Interview: Sara Jay
Sara Jay is one of the most curvaceous porn stars in the industry. Measuring 41-27-41, Sara Jay’s gigantic 36E boobs balance out her big booty just right. She’s been in the adult business since she started dancing in Ohio at age 18. Sara has built her career on being genuine, enthusiastic and truly enjoying sex.
We caught up with Sara Jay to talk about her career and something she’s definitely not ashamed of talking about … sex!
You seem to be really goal-oriented and handle your career like owning your own business where you’re the product. There’s a lot of pride when it’s approached like that.
I agree. Nobody sells yourself better than you.
You’ve become one of the top names in the industry. Looking back, how do you remember your first year?
My first year was very sporadic. I was just trying to get started. I’d done a couple of scenes in Las Vegas. I went to New York and shot for a bunch of really small fetish websites. I was just getting my feet wet. I was still dancing at the time. I was trying new stuff to see what would happen. I kept at it until I was busy shooting all the time.
Did you have any misconceptions about the porn industry back then?
I hadn’t really heard too much about the business. I didn’t really have any preconceived notions. I usually approach things in my life like that. I try not to get too much of a vision in my head that way I’m not disappointed! (laughs) I guess I thought there was less work and more money. (laughs) In reality there is a whole lot more work and a whole lot less money.
How have things changed? Are you having to work just as hard now as you did then?
It’s actually more work now than it’s ever been. I’ve got involved in more projects and more things that my name’s on. I’ve branded my name pretty well and I represent a lot of things. When I started I was purely talent – tits and ass on one side of the camera. Now, not only am I branded, but I have a reputation to uphold. I have to make sure that my body’s in great condition. That’s extremely important. That’s like quality control for your product, you know? I’m behind the camera as well, directing, writing and marketing. I also have my website and my merchandise site. I also have a webcam site. I have more businesses to run and I’m much busier than I ever was. We’re expected to have a certain amount of fun, too. Not only is my work really work, but my work is also fun. I am expected to go to parties and show up at events and have fun!
The adult industry has changed so much over the past few years. Tube sites are killing the retail side of things and there really isn’t a business model anymore. How do you think porn should be marketed?
That’s a really tough question. In my mind it’s in a state of limbo. We’re definitely in a transitional period. Do we spend the time and money controlling our product and where it goes or do we spend our time and money trying to come up with a new business model?
The cool thing about that is anybody’s idea is OK for now. There’s no real right or wrong way of doing things anymore. But entertainment fans have become so lazy. If they can’t download it instantly – and for free – they don’t want it or they’ll move on to something else.
It’s sad. And a lot of people don’t realize what they’re doing is illegal when it comes to downloading. A lot of the companies that I deal with in the adult industry are starting to sue John Doe users. If you illegally download porn and think there is nothing wrong with it, there definitely is and you can be sued. Should a porn producer or studio go after the average consumer?
You’re targeting your fanbase.
Exactly. There’s where it becomes a problem. Then it becomes how can you make money out of that situation? It’s a challenge. It’s something we talk about daily in our porn lives.
So let’s jump back a little. Do you remember when you first became aware of your sexuality?
Yes. It wasn’t that long ago! (laughs) I guess I was a late bloomer. I wasn’t that interested in sex at first. I wasn’t attracted to anybody around me, which was part of the problem. I was attracted to much older me. I don’t think I was fully aware of my sexuality until I was 18 or 19. Then it just snowballed. Quickly! (laughs)
Watching porn at that point in your life was probably the furthest thing in your mind, huh?
Yeah. My mom had given me some old porn to watch. That was mad uncomfortable. I did not like watching porn. Even when I started having sex I didn’t watch it. I don’t really watch porn now. I watch it for work purposes, but not during sex. I’m to busy during sex to watch porn! (laughs) If it’s on in the background I’m not mad about it but I’m not watching it. I’m busy doing stuff!
What attracts you to your job? Money, sex, glamour – all the above?
Absolutely the sex! It’s definitely the sex. I’m a horny freak. (laughs) I started out dancing around your way in Kentucky and I really enjoyed it. I liked it a lot more than I expected I would. Not just because of the money – it was fun. I liked hanging out with the girls and playing dress up. I liked being viewed sexually. I really enjoyed the freedom of being my own boss. I enjoyed the hustle. It eventually got to be old and boring and I took the aspects that I liked and decided to do porn. I like being viewed as a sexual object and I’m not shy. I don’t have any problem having sex with people without feelings. I really love sex. I wanted to make sure I did something I enjoyed. I had no idea sex would come with so much paperwork! (laughs)
When you first came into the industry you were known for your boobs, then that graduated to your booty, then interracial and MILF scenes, you’re all over the place. What do you want people to think when they hear Sara Jay? And does it matter as long as their dick gets hard?
Right? Exactly! A hard dick is first and foremost! I want people to think of me as the really horny girl next door. Or the woman next door. I’m a regular person but I really, really like sex and I’m not ashamed about it at all. I love sex and I love having sex with different people. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
Have you ever second-guessed your decision to be a porn star?
No. Never. Not once. There’s times I felt the stress of being a porn star but I kept on truckin’. It was a decision I made and I knew if I could get through the bumps in the road that it would get better. It’s just like any other job and any other challenge in life.
How are you personally in this point and time in your life right now?
I am very happy. I do everything I wanna do, when I wanna do it. I’m in total control of my life. That’s happiness for me.
Some people would say that’s being selfish, but I think it’s OK to be selfish sometimes.
Keepin’ it real, yes – I am being selfish. I don’t have anybody to be any other way for. I don’t have a partner. I don’t have a child or children. I make sure my mom and dad are taken care of. I’ve got the best friends in the world. I’ve got the greatest group of people around me and I give to them all the time. I’m one of the most giving people I know. I don’t mean monetarily – I give my time and space. I try to make sure everybody’s in a good mood and having fun. I’m a very giving person but I’m selfish in the fact that I make sure I’m having fun first!
Sara Jay, I appreciate you taking time out today. What would you like to say to your fans to wrap things up?
I appreciate every single one of my fans. I’ve realized that the fans are what pays my bills and I’m so thankful they’re out there and they like watching me and they like watching what I do. There’s going to be a whole lot more of it, behind and in front of the camera. I appreciate feedback and make sure you follow me on Twitter (@sarajayxxx) and check out my website. I like to stay in close contact with my fans and hear what they have to say. It’s all about my fans and getting them off!
